Mini Interlude!

Hey guys, I know I haven’t been posting much updates but here’s a vlog with my friends. We made this video in order to complete the requirements in ICT. Although we made it out of necessity since it is compulsory to ICT, we still had lots of fun while making it! So I hope you will spare a minute (or more) to watch our vlog and wishing that you will be entertained. Hoping for your consideration as well because we are all amateurs and this is our first time making this kind of video. Kamsahamnida!!

K-Drama #4: Reply 1997

Drama Title: Reply 1997
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Adolescence, Drama
Episodes: 16 episodes
Broadcast Period: July 24, 2012 – September 18, 2012

Synopsis: Set in the 1990’s, the drama centers around a female high school student Shi Won (Jung Eun Ji), who idolizes boyband H.O.T and her 5 high school friends in Busan. As the timeline moves back and forth between their past as 18-year-old high schoolers in 1997 and their present as 33-year-olds at their high school reunion dinner in 2012, where one couple will announce that they’re getting married.

Insights: Definitely one of my favorite korean drama! Though the first episodes were quite confusing because sometimes the scenes would suddenly be trimmed since it has an unusual transitions from past to present. But unlike other k-drama, the characters in this drama were so reaaaal. I can totally relate to them and it feels like I really know them in real life. The fangirling part is also a plus! I can really see myself there. I also love the leading man, he is really someone to treasure! I want to meet someone like him, he even knows how to handle various relationship to make it last. Eventually, this drama lead me to a lot of realizations that are applicable in real life. As a result, hundreds of screenshots of their lines were saved in my phone. Another proof that this is really daebak, this drama was followed by another season namely, Reply 1994 and Reply 1988! It even had an american remake version called Reply 1999. Amazing, isn’t it?

K-Drama #3: Heartstrings

Drama Title: Heartstrings
Genre: Youth, Romance, Musical, Teen film
Episodes: 15 episodes
Broadcast Period: June 29, 2011 – August 18, 2011

Synopsis: Set at an art university, the youth romance drama depicts the sweat and tears of students who run towards their dreams of love and friendship. Kyu-Won (Park Shin-Hye) is a bright girl and a highly skilled gayageum player. She is in the Korean traditional music department. Kyu-Won also comes from a family who has one of the three best pansori singers in the world. Shin (Jung Yong-Hwa) is a cold and refined young man, while being a highly skilled guitarist. He is in the applied music department. They come from different family backgrounds and have an argument, but then start to like other.

Insights: I encountered Heartstrings after I became interested in musical drama while watching Dream High. This drama has a very interesting and fun characters, especially my love Kang Min Hyuk, that made me stalk each of them after I have finished watching. I also liked their soundtracks that are full of emotions. The actress in this drama also made a huge impact on my k-drama list since I prioritize her dramas.  However, the leading man’s role is really rude and mean but I still like the actor in real life. At any rate, I really liked this drama and still remember some scenes in my head even though 6 years have already passed!

K-Drama #2: Dream High

Drama Title: Dream High
Genre: Romance, Musical, Teen film
Episodes: 16 episodes
Broadcast Period: January 3, 2011 – February 28, 2011

Synopsis: Dream High revolves around the lives of six students at Kirin High School who have a dream of becoming a performer in the music industry. During their school years, they learn how to develop their singing, songwriting and dancing skills while undergoing personal growth. Each one of the students has his or her own strengths and weaknesses, but they strive to debut with the support and guidance of each other.

Insights: Kim Hyun Joong (who played the role of Baek Seung Jo in Playful Kiss– refer to my previous post) lead me to watch Dream High, not knowing that he only had a cameo appearance on the first episode. But little did I know that I would fell in love with this drama! Eventually I found my ultimate bias(es) in this drama namely Jang Wooyoung and Lee Ji Eun (IU), and together they were called Milky Couple due to their combined name WooU which means milk in Korea. Fangirling aside, this drama is very light that I repeatedly watch it whenever I have free time. Also, its OST are soooo great and it inspires me to work hard to achieve my dreams!

K-Drama #1: Playful Kiss

Drama Title: Playful Kiss
Genre: Romance, Comedy, School
Episodes: 16 episodes + 7 special episode via Youtube
Broadcast Period: September 1, 2010 – October 21, 2010

Synopsis: Oh Ha Ni (Jung So Min) is a clumsy student who falls for the perfectionist, Baek Seung Jo (Kim Hyun Joong). However, Seung Jo is indifferent towards her and rejects her love. When Ha Ni’s house collapses, she and her father moves into his long-time friend’s house. It turns out that Seung Jo is the friend’s son and Ha Ni is given the opportunity to be near the guy she loves. Will she be able to move Seung Jo’s heart?

My insights: This drama has the typical plot and characters, making it the cliché type of korean drama. But in my part, this is one of my firsts korean drama. I remember watching this when I was still in Grade 5. I was full of laughter and kilig while watching it. Maybe because of Baek Seung Jo’s personality (which became my ideal type) or Oh Ha Ni’s cheekiness. Nevertheless, this is one of the k-dramas that I will never forget and will never get tired of re-watching it.

The Origin

First things first, I would like to explain the title of my blog. It was derived from a famous saying “my cup of tea” which is an expression that is used to describe something you like, something you are good at or something you enjoy doing. In relation to that, my posts will be about suggestions to korean drama which is something I really enjoy. Watching korean drama relaxes my nerves and releases my stress. In short, it became one of the things that takes most of my time. However, if you noticed I changed the “tea” into milk simply because I prefer milk over tea. This sums up my brief introduction to my first ever blog. I hope you appreciate my effort and anticipate the upcoming posts! 🙂
